The highly anticipated Couture Fashion Week has taken its audience by storm.

Hot on the heels of Paris Fashion Week, Haute Couture Fashion Week, which began on Monday promised a variety of collections with bold, daring looks that will serve as inspiration for future designers. From the runways to the spectators, The week has already brought us the classic glamour and artistry it is well known for. Here’s some of what we’ve seen so far:

Chanel’s Giant Button

The Chanel Spring/Summer 2024 haute couture show created a surprising focus on an iconic element of the brand - the button. The ballet-inspired collection worn by models with minimal makeup, saw a giant Chanel button with the iconic logo hanging over the runway. Whilst the installation was striking, it in no way took away from the impact of the collection. The pieces featured nods to classical ballet including leotards, tulle and lace, with ballerina-turned-actress Margaret Qualley opening the runway.

JLo’s Floral Jacket

At first glance, JLo’s outfit for the Schiaparelli couture show was a simple yet elegant combination accented with the Schiaparelli anatomy jewellery bag, and a stunning new haircut. However, the jacket which appeared to be minimalistic was created with real rose petals. Combined with a white turtleneck, and high-waisted black leggings the look was accessorised with golden hoop earrings and sunglasses, whilst the floral jacket popped despite being plain white.

Dior’s Towering Tribute

Dior’s Haute Couture collection was presented on a runway surrounded by Isabella Ducrot’s 5-metre designs, intended as a tribute to royal Ottoman attire. The installations served to compliment the looks themselves as the show commenced. The loose silhouettes of the designs on the walls provided a fascinating contrast to the structure presented on the runway looks, whilst the splashes of colour on the installations created a playful juxtaposition to the neutral pieces of the collection.

Front Row Looks Out Of This World

Zendaya and Hunter Schafer stunned in the front row of Schiaparelli’s show with fabulous looks. Zendaya’s look was reminiscent of an otherworldly creature, featuring spikes down the arms and a skirt with an eye-catching train, which she combined with a brand new micro fringe, adding to the ethereal look. Hunter took a different approach, with the golden appliqué halter neck accenting a classic little black dress in a way that took us straight back to “The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes”.

Schiaparelli’s And Its Cinematic Influences

Accompanied by soundtracks from hit films such as “Alien”, “Top Gun” and even newly Oscar-nominated “Oppenheimer”, the Schiaparelli Couture runway presented an homage to cinematic history. From Matrix-inspired black openers to the 'Mother' board baby doll covered in electronic chips symbolic of technology from the early 2000s, the collection truly came alive on the runway. Presenting a perfect balance between haute couture and pop culture references, it was as refreshing as it was jaw-dropping.

As the week continues, we can't wait to see what else is in store!
