By Valentine Fabre

Barbie

After months of intensive marketing, we finally made it: the Barbie Movie Premiere took place in Los Angeles on Sunday, July 9th. Walking down an - inevitably - pink carpet, Margot Robbie proved once again that she is the Barbie of this world. From the breath taking Schiaparelli haute couture dress to the sumptuously sparkling pink Versace mini dress Dressed in a sumptuous Schiaparelli haute couture gown. Here are a few times Margot Robbie took direct inspiration from the iconic doll herself.

Schiaparelli Haute Couture x Barbie Solo In The Spotlight (1960s)

With its siren-shaped dress, the Barbie Solo is the most glamorous of them all. From the black sequenced fishtail dress, down to the pink chiffon scarf and the red rose, Daniel Rosberry’s interpretation of the vintage gown, is a beautiful and unforgettable homage to the doll.

Hervé Leger x Original Barbie (1959)

The sun was shining in Australia and so was Margot Robbie, as she arrived at Bondi Beach in Sydney in a Hervé Leger striped mini-dress, the dress was directly inspired by the original Barbie. The reference to Barbie's first ever outfit, from 1959 bringing us back to a time where everything was changing and developing including fashion, along with it the birth of the world's most iconic doll.

Versace x Day To Night Barbie (Night Version)

Barbie has always been known as a party girl, a social butterfly that never shies away from situations, Margot Robbie embodied this as she walked down the Seoul movie Premiere red carpet, dressed in a glittery light pink Versace dress and fuchsia tulle skirt.

Versace x Day To Night Barbie (Day Version)

Of course, there would be no party without a working Barbie. Clad in a second custom Versace look, Andrew Mukamal referenced the 1985 doll with a below-the-knee pencil skirt paired with a matching blazer, accessorised with a boater hat, pointy heels and an oversized glittery pink phone. In case you were wondering, no Barbie doesn’t sleep. She goes to work directly from the party, always looking immaculate.

Emilio Pucci x Totally Hair Barbie (1992)

One of Barbie's most iconic features is her hair of course! Dressed in an Emilio Pucci mini-dress, the perfect accessory to Margot Robbie’s extra long and wavy blond hair, the look was the perfect reference to Mattel’s 25th anniversary Barbie doll.

Valentino x Pink & Fabulous (2015)

Margot Robbie’s press tour looks have been pink and fabulous to say the very least, but this look is emulated a quintessential Barbie aesthetic. Dressed in a custom Valentino polka-dot dress and white Manolo Blahniks, the Australian actress keeps on proving that the role was made for her.

Balmain x Earring Magic Barbie (1992)

Can there ever be too many accessories? Andrew Mukamal doesn’t think so with these adorable (yet massive) heart shaped earrings. The perfect accessories to complete Margot Robbie's Balmain Barbie look.

Moschino x Sparkling Pink Barbie (1964)

Last but no least, this vintage look from Moschino SS15, seen in Seoul was the perfect portrayal of the 1964 Barbie doll. The renowned fashion house created a matching pencil skirt and blazer, adorned with ornate with small rhinestones, this is not only an iconic look, but also faithful to the Barbie identity.

As the press tours have come to an end and we gear up for the movies release this week we cannot wait to see what ingenious looks the movie will have in store.
