Helmut Lang SS24

What to look forward to as the week approaches.

The womenswear fashion season begins with the upcoming New York Fashion Week, which starts on February 9th. Following the triumphs of Paris Couture Week and Copenhagen, New York is certain to bring forth much to talk about, from streetwear trends to runway showstoppers. Here are 5 things to expect from New York Fashion Week:

Rising Stars

Peter Do will start the week off with his second collection for Helmut Lang, ensuring a portrayal of stunning evolution. As the week goes on, we’ll have the privilege of seeing several designers who have been dubbed as ones to watch, including NYFW first-timers Bishme Cromartie and Jane Wade. From fresh designers to fresh brands, the week is sure to spotlight more talent we ought to keep an eye on in the coming years.

NatGeo Takes Fashion Week

National Geographic is having a runway debut, with an immersive fashion show to promote and celebrate its upcoming docuseries, Queens. Each of the looks aims to represent animals and environments depicted in the series and will be curated and styled by Sakinah Bashir. Emerging designers that will get to take the spotlight include JêBlanc, Bed on Water, L’Enchanteaur, and Studio 189, along with others. The show will be a unique contribution to nature's matriarchy, and will surely bring a special flare to the week.

New York Fashion Week

Thom Browne

Thom Browne Makes A Comeback

Thom Browne will be returning to the runway at NYFW on February 14th, despite now chairing the body in charge of organising the iconic fashion event. The show will close NYFW and welcome Browne back exactly a year after he showcased his Little Prince-themed collection in the fashion capital. Having just debuted his couture collection in Paris, and being the only American designer asked to do so in 50 years, Browne’s comeback is one we justifiably look forward to.

New Trends And Streetstyle

Like with every fashion week, New York is guaranteed to leave a trail of photographs detailing streetstyle combinations and providing us with an overview of new trends. Paris and Copenhagen have brought new makeup looks and hairstyles into focus, and New York is sure to follow suit, perhaps even showcasing some of the trends we’ve already seen, like bows, flowers, and micro bangs, and cementing them into this year's forecasts.

Stars In The Front Row

Whether they are ambassadors of the brands or just fans of fashion, A-listers always find their way to the front rows of fashion week. Actors, singers, and influencers are guaranteed to be seen on most of the runways wearing ensembles that will serve as fashion inspiration for the coming months.

New York Fashion Week is set to kick off the womenswear season with a bang. Stay tuned for all the show coverage you need throughout the week!
